On Morocco’s Atlantic coast,
about 170 km west of Marrakech, is the delightful little town of Essaouira. With
its romantic fortified medina (a UNESCO world heritage site), photogenic fishing
port, beautiful beaches, world class watersports,
characterful restaurants, art, music, easy-going people and
mild, sunny climate it is not hard to see why so many people have fallen in love
with the place. In the heart of the ancient media, yet just 10 minutes
walk from the beach, is a historic house which has been
converted into comfortable and well-equipped self-catering
apartments with loads of Moroccan character. |

Chez Rebecca ...
Chez Rebecca is an exceptionally light and airy
rooftop apartment with plenty of space for open-air
living, including a sheltered private
terrace (perfect for a leisurely breakfast or lunch) and
a large shared rooftop terrace with splendid views of the
medina and the Atlantic Ocean. The large
living/dining area has a traditional Moroccan fireplace and plenty of
discretely-hidden technology. There are two bedrooms (one twin and one
double), a bath/shower room in honey-coloured tadelakt (the pigmented polished
plaster that is traditionally used for hammams) and a fully-equipped open-plan
kitchen. The mainly blue and white decor which is so typical of Essaouira
gives the apartment a laid-back seaside atmosphere. Unlike a dar or riad (courtyard house), Chez Rebecca's
windows face the outside so you can go to sleep to the
sound of Atlantic waves and wake up to blue skies and
sunshine (well, most of the year!).
Sleeps 4 - 5. From £300 to £450 per week - Click here for more

The Spice Cave ...
The
Spice Cave is an idiosyncratic ground-floor apartment
with a unique blend of Moroccan quirkiness, individual
style and European comforts. It has many unique
features including some specially commissioned stained glass
from a local artist. The spacious open plan living
area has a fully equipped kitchen and a beautiful curved
tiled staircase leading to two mezzanines. Due to
a original quirky floor plan the sleeping arrangements
are informal, flexible - and fun! There is one
'conventional' double bedroom, two low-ceilinged
mezzanines and additional accommodation in the salon, if
required, plus a spacious bathroom (with tadelakt bath/shower) and a small tadelakt shower room. The
apartment has access to a large shared rooftop terrace
which has splendid views of the
medina and the Atlantic Ocean.
Sleeps 6. From £200 to £300 per week - Click here for more
